The official language of instruction at Technical College of Applied Studies is Serbian.
One of the goals of the College is to cooperate with institutions in the region. The cooperation will be facilitated as there is no language boundary, since Serbian, Croatian, Bosnian and Montenegrin are considered to be standardized forms of one polycentric language. When Macedonian (Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia) and Slovenian are considered, these languages are related to Serbian, they have similar vocabulary, and communication can flow without difficulty, with only small adjustment and explanations. Thus, all courses in Serbian, can be easily followed by students from the region.
Having in mind that a lot of professional terms are internationally used, all courses in Serbian can be adjusted to the needs of international students, who will additionally be provided with consultations in English.
The minimum requirement for both incoming and outgoing students is level B1, and for incoming and outgoing staff level B2, unless otherwise stipulated by an interinstitutional agreement.
In order to ensure efficient mobility of both staff and students, the College takes measures to ensure that all participants in mobility have a satisfactory level of English language knowledge or knowledge of the language spoken at the Host institution. In selection procedure for outgoing mobility, participant’s knowledge of foreign languages is checked through oral and written examinations carried out in line with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. The College organizes long-term and short-term English language courses for its students and staff, free of charge. If needed, the College will organize other language courses both within the College or in a language school with which the College cooperates.
An intensive course of Serbian will be organized for international students and staff in cooperation with the Faculty of Philology and Arts, University of Kragujevac, that offers courses of Serbian for foreign learners. Additionally, an English language teacher at Technical College of Applied Studies offers assistance to incoming students and staff, and will help them to understand and use basic, everyday expressions and phrases that will facilitate their stay in Serbia.
One of the long-term goals of the Strategy of internationalization of the College is an introduction of at least one study program in English. The possibility of such study program will be further explored, in relation to the extent of student mobility and possibilities for establishing joint/double study programs together with partner institutions abroad. The benefits of the study program in English would be passed on to the students, staff, society and the economy, therefore, all the possibilities of its introduction will the considered.
